The Great Gatsby Book Jacket
The Great Gatsby focuses on the rise and fall of Jay Gatsby. In order to depict the story visually, I created a simple graph that spans the cover of the book. On the back, the graph rises to symbolize Gatsby’s success, remains stable for a short while, and then plummets to Gatsby’s inevitable demise—and leading the eye to the title of the book. The hand-done die cuts reveal rose gold foil, inspired by the opulence of the 1920s.
The foil is covered by a stark white cover that symbolizes the masquerade in which the characters live. The black portion adds some geometry and increased interaction with design.
The title on the spine of the black cover is handwritten.
