There's a certain beautiful melancholy that comes with sunset. It's as if the day is putting on one last glorious show, saying don't forget me--clouds roll together in flames of color and light, flanking the sun as it sinks beneath the horizon. There is no doubt that this is a sight to behold, but then there's a type of sadness knowing that another day has slipped through our fingers, never to be held again. I'm a big believer in living each day to the fullest, and sometimes it makes me sad when time goes so quickly.

A few weeks ago, we headed down the river just as the sun was setting. The littles played on the beach and drew in the sand and we all admired the flock of geese gracefully floating on the water. Later, after the sun was just an afterglow in the western sky, there was live music as we sat on the concrete pillars in the twilight. My heart felt as though it could burst at that moment; goosebumps ran up and down my arms. I wanted to bottle up the rush of feelings to save for a pick-me-up later down the road. And after night fell upon us, we slowly packed up and drove home, taking the longer route with the windows down. The sunset begged me not to forget it. I didn't.

love these boys :)
It's more than just a season; it's a lifestyle, the mascot of freedom and token of adventure. It's a lifestyle of late nights under an impossibly vast star-studded universe, stretching to catch the sweet sticky drops falling fast from a melting ice cream cone, and spontaneity just for the heck of it. There has always been a certain aura summer possesses, one that sets it apart from the others. It's one of feet meeting sand and golden droplets of sun meeting cool sparking water; airplanes and suitcases and new places; bronzed arms laced with freckles, sun bleached locks, and the taste of adventure mingling with saltwater on your tongue. It embodies so much and try as the other seasons might, there isn't one quite like summer. The curtains to these blissful months have just opened and I'm ready.

Happy June!

Oh, where to start with this girl? Ellie is all around amazing, guys. She's incredibly beautiful and so knowledgeable and just so fun to be around. I love her laugh and her sweet disposition, her willingness to help and her sense for adventure. She is so vibrant and full of life and I had some of the best days ever with her. I'm not alone in missing her, either...Ellie's shadow for the week, MeMe, misses her just as much as I do. Ellie, I love you. I wish you the best in your adventures this summer and I can't wait to hug you again. You're the best.
ellie & carlotta || a vlog
Over the past few days, I was blessed enough to be able to start calling Ellie my friend in real life. We met last year through our blogs and this week she swung by my house for a two day visit. I cannot tell you how amazing it is to meet close friends made through the internet for the first time. It's indescribable. Unfortunately, Ellie had to head back home yesterday morning, but we had the best of times together, involving adventures downtown, long chats, walking along the river at sunset, lots of laughs and looots of photos. I can't wait to share more from her stay! And Ellie...hurry back soon. We already miss you!

Both Ellie and I have received a multiple requests for a vlog over the past few weeks. Today would normally be the May edition of everyday moments, but we thought we'd do a special video edition instead--because two is better than one, right? We'll be talking a little bit about branding yourself, your business, and your photography...enjoy!

(and let's just ignore my awkardness and focus on ellie's cuteness, okay?)

Be sure to stop by Ellie's blog as well to view her special everyday moments post!
