In an instantly gratifying world of digital photographs, film photography is becoming a lost art. It can be easy to become deterred by the extra expense, time, and effort involved, but oh, it's so worth it. There is a feel--the grain, the light-leaks, the colors--that just cannot be reproduced in editing programs by even the most talented. I like the anticipation of waiting for rolls to be developed and the unexpectedness of the finished product.
I have just recently started shooting film and it's been such a gratifying experience so far. My first roll of film, taken back in September (yes, it took me that long to get it developed), was mailed back to me a few days ago. It was so lovely flipping through the images for the first time and reliving memories. Film photography? You have me smitten.

Do you shoot film?

Tonight, I'm just content. It's Monday, but it was the best kind of Monday. Summer-like weather (Oklahoma in the spring is the best). Having the breath knocked out of me by the sheer beauty of the world unfurling and blossoming. Ignoring electronics in favor of a romp in the yard with the best sisters. Soaking up that extra hour of sweet sunshine (oh daylight savings how I love you). And now, laying on the couch and listening to the crickets chirp through the open window.

On a forum like this, it's hard to accurately describe life without sounding like a sugary-sweet, cliche broken record. Nobody ever said life was easy all the time--trust me, I've seen enough things in the last few months to confirm that. But honestly, even though I have a math test on Friday I'm afraid I'm going to fail, even though at times I feel like I'm going to get lost in routine, even though sometimes all I can do is cry, life right now is crazy good, guys. So good.

I'm off to slip out into the velvety cricket-filled darkness and watch the stars. Happy Monday, y'all.
friday is my favorite.
I was oh so tempted to spell favorite with a u, in a vain attempt to sound more sophisticated. And since I have a Canadian friend and English friend, it totally would have been justified, right? I refrained, but that doesn't stop me from pretending that I'm more refined than I really am. But moving on.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Fridays? I like the way they are a blank slate, a whole day to fill as you wish. I like the feeling of having a whole weekend stretched before you. I like the sweet cadence of mid-morning breakfasts of waffles and coffee, late night movies, piercingly blue skies broken by blossoms, and laughs with friends. I like how plans are spontaneous--exploring, shopping, or a catnap, perhaps?
Friday is just my favorite.

Do you have a favorite day?

Happy weekend, lovelies!

ps most of you have probably already heard of/seen it, but please watch this video and help with the efforts to stop joseph kony. thank you!
a little room tour.
So far this week, among other things, I've written letters, papers, and articles, done homework, gone to work, gardened, gone to the library, deep cleaned my room, sorted through my email, spent too much time on the internet, played scrabble, and managed to put together a little room tour.

But first, three things:

1. I'm looking forward to getting my new camera, especially because of its stellar video capabilities. No more grainy, dark point-and-shoot videos! Until then, just bear with me, please.
2. Apparently I talk with my hands a lot. Who knew? And no. My skin isn't really like that. Cameras just enjoy making me look like a pink alien.
3. Enjoy! And please don't hate me for my fast-talking, run on sentences, and general awkwardness.

Happy Wednesday!
